Tuesday morning Ipoh.

I woke up exceptionally early at 7.00a.m, by the noise of vehicles screaming pass my parents' house in Ipoh and by the itchiness of my scalp. Nevertheless, I happened realized that I used to be immune to the noise or it's just that our nation is suffering from chronic-to-much-cars-and-motorbikes-on-the-road disease. Maybe I never realised that there are residence in Malaysia that are more peaceful then.

Somehow my mind continued to reminiscence the past two days of activities. Now let’s start with STOMP! It was a birthday treat for MondayBluer. However I have to agree with a friend. She just cannot see the point of paying that much of money to watch a bunch of people banging on dustbins and broom. Yes, they are creative in producing tempo from the simplest utility such as plastic bags, but it isn’t much of an entertainment at the last one hour of the show. Nevertheless, seems like MB enjoyed it more that I did which was the important fact. By the way the duration of the performance was 1 hour and 50 minutes! Damn, I rather watch ROBOT and cost 20 times less.

Last Wednesday was MB’s birthday and we went to have dinner at this exquisite Vietnamese restaurant at Changkat Tong Shin called Sao Nam. Nestle within a refurbished mid colonial building it serves authentic and fusion type of Vietnamese cuisine. This was my life's 3rd visit to Sao Nam because honestly, the bill can be a bit dear sometimes, especially for an E-quadrant person like me.
Two hours prior to the appointment, I rushed to make reservation. The receiver answered was very accommodating for my requests after I have explained the occasion. Why don't you serve birthday cakes? Isn't this a restaurant? I added. "Sir, I am sure we can come out with a replacement, so we see you at 8 then ya?", he answered with confidence. Wow! I exercised my right as a consumer and they reacted well. Bravo Sao NAM! Dinner finished and out came the birthday song with a birthday................

CUSTARD?!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!

Perhaps it was very surprising that MB got her very first birthday custard. Yes, she did not have the traditional icing cake but custard instead. She laughed with delight may because we were pretty much full or maybe that she would have been saved from embarrassment with a big cake or maybe I am that broke!

After her birthday celebration, recently I have been misinterpreting her speech. Just as yesterday morning, I happened to mishear her request to have “Chee Yoke Fun” (Pork noodles) instead of “Chee Cheong Fun”. Although for mishap she was able to hold on to her reactions like a true lady would and gulped the “Chee Cheong Fun” like it was no other “Chee Yoke Fun” she ever had.

In fact the most ridiculous misinterpretation was on Saturday evening dinner. Asked her I did of the venue to dine and she said “My Kitchen”. Somehow unconsciously in my mind I was set for mini tom yam seafood steam pot. Anyway, we drove ourselves individually to “My Kitchen” and I was there first. Got in ordered a large pearl milk tea and started to skim through the menu. After my drink arrived, I proceeded to order our food on behalf of MB as well since she is unusually late. As the order was relayed back to the kitchen, a SMS arrived and it wrote “I have already ordered”. To my surprise, I looked around and saw no MB in sight. Smirking with a duh face, I immediately called for the waitress to stop my food order. Phoned MB and found out that both of us were waiting for one another in different restaurants about four kilometers apart, unbelievable? Believe it!

I made this!

As I leaned back, sinking myself into my car seat while waiting for the traffic to clear at the ever most famously jammed packed traffic lights between old Subang Jaya and USJ, I noticed a building named HEI TECH! Seriously it caught my attention, maybe because of it was the blue and red tone of color or simply the spelling can be deviated in pronunciation. Thus may sound vulgar in a sense. Anyway, I was on the way to install a make shift metal rack for a customer SOHO network system.

After reflecting the amount of energy, time, creativity and effort to build this rack, was simply amazing but somehow satisfying. Most of all I manage to install it but with lots of problems along the way. Biggest problem was getting the right parts to assemble with a rough plan scratch in my head not on paper.

I guess what I am trying to say is, after the world has embraced industry revolution, ‘designers’ such as myself, would have difficulty to gather components to build. Normally unique pieces such as art or furniture or brand comes at an expensive price whereas those that are manufactured for the mass lots, or shall I say common, would only have restricted options dictated by the designer or the manufacturer. In a nutshell, I just did not know where to obtain raw material like these and I have no idea how I managed to get them in the end.?

Happy Birthday and Happy 100th post!

Yes! I have reached my very first 100th posting. It isn't any special just that by right this posting is not suppose to be any coincident with someone's birthday. Perhaps I purposely delay my blog posting to mark 2 occasions, doubling the celebration online! How sad?

It's gonna be MondayBluer's birthday. Yeh!!! Happy Birthday MB! Just in case some might ask the presents I gave MB for her XXth birthday here are answers;

Tickets! These looks like normal TGV or GSC movie tix but look closely, the price is not normal RM10 or RM9. It is freaking RM227.00! Anyway, I believe this show is worth every Malaysian ass cents and especially going with someone you have Monday Blue every Sunday night, priceless.

Next present will be...
a surprise but only will be shown on the 24th September or earlier I hope. Sometimes I feel birthdays are for kids but I guess everyone should celebrate once in awhile because that is what makes us human.

Oh! I am asking who ever that reads my blog, well not many does because I never publicize it, do wish MondayBluer a Happy Birthday in the comment section. Need to gather the head counts so that next year can organise a large celebration I hope. Your comments and well wishes are so very appreciated. Thank you.

Router migration and USB Wifi Adapter Upgrade.

It has been 25 hours since I installed the new wireless router for home use. After more than 8 months of agony in experiencing constant network drops, I have finally thrown in the towel to something more commercially proven and endorse by many. Somehow I felt that I have become a staunch Belkin supporter after purchasing 3 different products from them. Two of them are mentioned here but the last one shall remain undisclosed for no reason what so ever.

Here is the old setup.

Focus on the big red X. The detail sub picture is showing my TIME Webbit Navini Modem. Talking about Navini, I wonder if there is a new firmware upgrade?

Opened the package.

Contents in box.

Plug it in and voila! Well, only after minimal security configuration so that the rest of my house mates don’t have to reconfigure. I tell you, doing network support for free is kind of cool because they will have to ask politely for help (coz not paying) plus I can help if I choose to coz it’s free support.

Anyway, setup completed as below.

As expected, I noticed three bad features of Belkin wifi router.

First of all, everytime I make a small ‘fraking’ setting adjustment, I am subjected to a 25 seconds wait for restart and relogin. This router was testing my patience.

Second is probably a disadvantage in usage but may be a good security feature. There seems to be a session for administration that requires logout. Closing your browser abruptly would render you unable to re-login until the session times out. If there is a session, why can’t it save all the setting changes in session and affect all these modification at a click? (referring to the first problem above)

The third and final disadvantage I noticed were, the power supply that connects to the back of the router is small. Small as in like an uncircumcised penis with a little head poking out making the power cable disconnects easily when moving the router.

However, the biggest advantage now I hope Belkin can deliver would be eliminating the frequent wifi network drop out.

I also changed the USB wifi adapter for my PC, an upgrade from 11Mbps to 54Mbps connectivity with the Belkin router. Thus involve the replacing of my current MA111 Netgear USB Wifi adapter, which I bought for RM255.00 in March 2004, to a Belkin product which cost RM180.00. Whereas petrol prices in Malaysia and the rest of the world is rising, some things are getting cheaper.
